2002 Purple Software British Open Shogi Championships - Results

Report:

The 2002 Purple Software British Open Shogi Championships were held on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May at Parkside Community College in Cambridge, UK. The tournament results selected the members of the GB team at the 2nd International Shogi Forum in Japan in October 2002, with places going to Stephen Lamb (4-dan), Les Blackstock (3-dan) and Demis Hassabis (1-kyu). Tony Hosking will be the team manager.

The event was honoured with the visit of 2 Shogi Professionals from Japan: Mr Miyata 7-dan and Mr Tamura 5-dan. After the Saturday rounds had been completed they played simultaneous displays. We hope they enjoyed their visit to Cambridge as much as we benefited from their advice.

Finally special thanks are due to Purple Software for their generous sponsorship and to the MSO Cambridge for allowing us to share their venue.
